How do dental implants work?

Dental implants are pretty amazing things.

The term ‘dental implant’ refers to the pure titanium fixture that is integrated into your jawbone – the bit where the root of your tooth would normally live. The implant doesn’t rely on the teeth that are already in your mouth, so it doesn’t add any stress or load to existing teeth. It acts like an anchor for your new tooth and is incredibly strong.

Once your implant has been securely integrated into your jaw, we custom design a crown, bridge or set of dentures to fit on top. The colour and shape of the new tooth or teeth will match your natural teeth perfectly, so no one will ever know you’ve had an implant.

How does All On 4 work?

All On 4 dental implants are the perfect choice if you need to replace multiple missing teeth.

We fit between four and six implants into your jaw which act as strong anchors for your new replacement teeth. We then fit a set of teeth that sit securely onto your implants so that you can eat, smile, and laugh confidently.

Dental implants are the best alternative to dentures

Dentures are also known as false teeth. They’re made of acrylic (plastic), nylon or metal and sit over your gum line. Dentures can be easily removed, which means they often trap food or move around your mouth, which can feel uncomfortable and look unsightly. Partial dentures can also rub against your other teeth, which increases the likelihood of getting holes in your teeth or gum recession around them.

If you’re ready to swap your dentures with a more permanent, healthier solution, dental implants at Jacaranda are the answer to your smile dreams. No more discomfort, problems eating, or having bare gums at night.

Dental implants are the modern way to replace missing teeth. They’re low maintenance, strong and once they’re in, you won’t need to think about them.

With dental implants, you’ll feel 10 years younger.

How long will your dental implant last?

Love your implant and your implant will love you back! A well-looked after implant (or implants) will last for decades.

The trick is to treat your new implant like any other tooth – that means regular cleaning, flossing and trips to the Dentist and hygienist for some TLC.

If your tooth is healthy and your bone is strong then your implant has the best chance of lasting for a long time. If you don’t care for your implant it can suffer from the same problems you can have with any other tooth – gum disease, gum infection, bleeding and soreness.

We’ll talk to you about all this at your appointment and explain how to keep it as clean as possible as it may need some special care depending on its position.

What’s the process for dental implant treatment?

Your dental implant treatment starts with a smile consultation to chat about your goals. At the appointment, we’ll give you an idea of the fees and what treatment is best for you.

The most important part of implant treatment is the planning. Put it this way – you wouldn’t build a house without surveying the land and making sure that it was solid enough to build on!

It’s the same with implants. It’s important that we check your mouth and bone are firm enough to receive the implants before starting any treatment.

We’ll take a 3D bone scan and measurements of your teeth and mouth. Once we have all the data, we’ll see you again to talk about the treatment you need, how many appointments the treatment will take and your total fee.

Fitting the tooth or bridge

We usually wait around 3 months before fitting your teeth on top of your implants to allow your bone to fuse with the implant making it nice and strong. The timing will change for everyone, so we’ll assess this as we go along.

If you already have dentures you can continue to wear them as normal while we wait for the implant to settle into its new home.

When your implant looks strong and happy, we’ll call you in to complete the treatment and fix your new teeth into position. This process can take a few appointments depending on whether you’re having a single or multiple teeth.

After that you just need to keep up with your regular appointments and keep your new implant safe, clean and healthy.
